How
To Be Nice On The Net
The
internet is great fun. It is also a lifeline for lonely, dispirited
people, homeworkers, and the most powerful networking tool on earth.
It deserves active efforts to make it also the most pleasant social
forum on the planet
That
apart, one casual glance at certain chatrooms will leave you in no doubt
why certain people get offended by the net. Criticism, unattractive
language, sarcastic, catty or vulgar comments can be horrifying for
anyone at the wrong end of it. But it's hard to change the way other
people express themselves.
However,
there are certain things we can do and now is your chance to voice your
recommendations. Below are some that have been put forward already.
Remember, not everyone knows all the 'ins and outs' of the net or certain
sites. It can be a complete foreign language for someone inexperienced
and sometimes people are uneasy about admitting they don't know how
to 'do Facebook' or 'chatrooms' etc.
Invite
someone ‘left out’ to join in your Facebook group.
Write nice Facebook statuses about other people.
Thank other people for their kind posting.
Answer an email, even if it is a brief response.
Help people with technical difficulties if you can.
Create Facebook groups complimenting celebrities rather than criticising
them.
Write ‘Thank you very much for having me. Had a really nice day’
on someone’s wall if you have been to their party.
When you do Facebook invitations, don’t say ‘maybe’..
Very rude. RSVP properly via Face book events.
Doing an ‘Honesty Box’? That’s the anonymous message
about someone— write someone a nice message.
Don’t upload photos that are indecent or unflattering of someone
else
